God I love this place.

Okay, okay, I know that it isn't May 8th yet, but something happened last night that just needed to be blogged about, so here I go.

Last night, the night before the first day of exams, the streakers came out in full shameless glory. Walking back to my room, I had forgotten about this most sacred tradition and when I heard screams, I thought that there was something wrong (perhaps another protest...). But lo, in the distance, with a leader proudly holding up a large American Flag, I saw a group of people not wearing any clothes, running towards the Pit. There were men and women alike partaking in this act of stress-induced insanity. They ran through the bottom level of the student union and I, on the phone with AD at the time, stood agape, not wanting to get too close. However, my best attempts were alas futile. I continued walking towards my dorm when I looked up again and saw a hoard of naked rushing towards me. "Oh God! I'm wearing Shorts!" I thought.

They rushed pass me, still with their patriotic leader and ran into the library, where I could hear great cheers of excitement and in the words of Monty Python, there was much rejoicing.

Anyways, that story needed to be shared. See you after exams for a full blog post!

Le Final Countdown!

Hey All! I'm postponing further blogging until after exams (May 8th). Sorry to disappoint. But don't worry! Come summertime I will be back with more amazingness and hopefully more fun filled videos and pictures and such (being home will probably mean an exponential increase in the amount of pictures of my cat, Robert and his shenanigans).

See you on the flip side!
Me! The Roamin' Catholic

(okay, so it's not really the "flip" side, but I have always wanted to use that quote as a sign off)

Sunshine Cleaning

Sunshine Cleaning
2009
Directed by Christine Jeffs

If you are able to see only one movie in the next coming months, I highly recommend that you make it this one. This movie is a charming dramady centered on the dysfunctional relationship of two sisters who go into business cleaning up crime scenes. This is a movie that could end up with a lot of mainstream buzz but still has the heart and soul of an indie flick (a la Juno and Little Miss Sunshine).

The plot line is faily simple and there are few (if any) real twists and turns, but it is still very enjoyable. There were several times while watching it when I expected something to happen but it didn't, so I would not go as far as to say it was predictable, but it is not by any streach of the imagination a keep-you-on-your-toes/ mess-with-the-audience type of film.

The movie took on a lot issues concerning death, including the afterlife and how to help the grievng. One of the most touching moments is when Oscar tries to use a CB radio to call Heaven.
I have to admit I started tearing up several times in this film (oh yes, it's a bit of a tearjerker if you let it be), especially the train sequence when Norah has a flashback to her childhood (I don't want to give away too much here).

Overall, this is a very sweet and clever movie and I highly recommend.
NB- if you are someone who is uncomfortable with suicide in film, this might not be the one to watch. There are three.

ThumbCutters Sequence

Hey all! Sorry I haven't posted in quite some time...I've basically been living at Student Stores, but oh well, they pay me, right?

Anyways, I made a short (3:26) min movie as a potential teaser for The Thumb Cutters' Revolution. Please watch and enjoy and comment. I spent two days working on this. :D

NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

UNC TARHEELS 2009 NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS!

I love going to a big school like UNC. This is amazing. We win a basketball game and take it as a sign from some almighty creator that we must go out and light things on fire and tear things down and scream. Franklin Street was something unlike anything I have ever experienced. I have never been more excited and simultaneously afraid for my safety. There were bonfires everywhere where students just began lighting things on fire. They tore down the street signs. They tried to cut down the cross walk signals. They jumped on shop windows and awnings. We pushed, we shoved, we screamed, we did everything our mothers told us not to do back in Kindergarden. It was chaos and it was beautiful.

Did you jump over fire? I did. I screamed and pushed and shoved and acted like an idot and did things that I would never do in any other circumstance. I cheered when the Franklin Street sign came down. I pushed people out of the way to breathe. I screamed as loud as I could, hoping the boys in Detroit could hear me. It was amazing.

So, after we won, I ran up to Franklin Street and cheered and did all that. Suddenly, I dropped my camera! Oh no! Then, everyone rushed forward and I was pushed away from where the camera was. Even if I could have found it, at this point, it was trampled and broken. I continued to look, however, but alas I never found it. A few minutes later, however, I overheard a guy say "Whoa, how did you find this?" to another guy. I turned around and there it was! My camera! Barely damaged and missing a battery, but alive! I was so happy. **Later I learned that the lense cover had broken and the zoom had jammed, but other than that it is alright. Perhaps fixable, but maybe not. If not, I'm going to get a new camera this summer.

I didn't get home until 1:45 and didn't get to sleep until 2:30. This would have been fine becuase my 8am class was cancelled, but I had to be at work at 5am. Student Stores Clothing employees had to be there at 5 in order to stock all the National Championship t-shirts. I stayed for about four hours and then took a 45 minute break in order to prepare for my meeting with one of the Comm Dept Professors with Peer Advising. I retunred at 10 and then stayed until about 12:15, going to lunch and then my meeting. The meeting went really well and I'm really excited about Peer Advising next year. :D Returning to Student Stores at 2, I stayed until 3 when my supervisor advised that I go home and get some sleep so that I could come back later and help with cleanup. So, I went home, took a nap and then returned to Stores at 6:45 and stayed until 8:15. Yesterday was one of the longest and most tiring days I've had in a long time. By the time I got home, I was loopy and losing my mind. I'm so glad I got some sleep last night, though! I feel so so much better.

Anyways, I'm going back to Student Stores today to help my supervisor with web orders and such, so I'm excited. I'm going to make so much money this pay period...ahh! Totally worth everything!

Go Heels!

Registration and the Weekend

So, registration was Thursday. What a mess. I don't think anyone got what they wanted out of there schedule, but mine fared pretty well. I have no classes on Friday and while I do have an 8am two days a week, it isn't so bad because I'm living on North Campus next year! Very excited. A lot of classes I wanted were filled up by the time I registered; I think this was God suggesting that I start taking my science requirements. Thus, I'm in a biology class.
Right now I am signed up for:
HIST 490- Muslim Identities in Asia
HIST 395-Americans at War and Play
COMM 230- Audio/Video Production and Writing II
COMM 639- Writing the Short Film
BIOL 202- Molecular Biology and Genetics

Wow...another weekend is over! Strange. Just think, we only have three or more weekends left until Summer! Eek! Better get studying! Anyways, I know I said I was going to connect to my inner hermit crab and not go out anymore, but guess what? I did...whoops. Friday was a lovely night of playing cards with the whole gang and just hanging out. We went to sushi and then to Locopops and then to Newman. We were going to watch the Fifth Element, but that never actually happened. Oh well.

Saturday, I got up early and went to Target and the mall with CK because I needed toothpaste and other things and he needed to get Guitar Hero World Tour for his brother. I love TTA...not really. So, there was some confusion about the arrival time of the bus to take us to Target/ the Mall, so we went and got breakfast instead. We finally caught the bus and made it over to the mall. After about an hour of shopping around and getting everything we needed, we went to Target and picked up the game and my toothpaste and grabbed some lunch and went home. After we got home, it was such a beautiful day that CK and I grabbed C and went outside to study. I got all of my Rome reading done which was nice. After a while I went back inside because I needed to do some stuff on the computer/ get ready to go out with MacRadical to dinner with some of her friends.

After dinner, MacRadical and I went to Haynes Arts Center to set up for Mystery Science Theatre 3000 Night and around 7 we started watching such a wonderful movie: "Riding With Death," and by wonderful I mean one of the most awesomely bad movies ever created. I left the movie night early because I needed to head back over to Newman to watch the Final Four game against us and Villanova. We won, which is fantastic because we now are going to play for the National Championship on Monday against Michigan State!!!!!!!! This is very exciting. There will be pictures from the watch party on Facebook for those of you who are interested.

Today has been a beautiful day. See Picture Below if you are not convinced. I had lunch earlier with C, CK, and RB, and once I am done with this, I am going to finish my Latin homework and start on my 10-page English paper. This has just been a nice productive weekend. Hopefully every weekend from here on out can be this nice and productive.
All Right Time to Study!
