As promised...here is the second half of my day! (Because I know you are all very eager to hear this...blogging is rather egotistical if you think about it)
After my nap, I woke up to find my roommate back from New York, and I was very excited. We both unpacked our stuff and then she headed out to go to a play and dinner with her totally awesome boyfriend (I totally approve of this kid- they are super cute together). I decided to head up to Student Stores, check my schedule and try to buy my textbooks, which brings me to another installment of:
Spark of Brilliance or Flash of Insanity?!?!
1) This actually is not about a decision I made today, but one the university made. See, today was the one and only day students could move back to campus before classes start tomorrow. This campus houses over ten thousand students in dormitories across campus. Moving back in was a mild nightmare for those who waited until the afternoon to move in. Luckily, mom and I decided to wake up at 5 and move in at 9...mini Spark of Brilliance to us! But the hassle of having only one day for students to move in is not completely about waiting for the elevator for ten minutes, but also the fact that the bookstore is now completely overrun with students trying to get their books in time for the start of the semester! I don't understand why the university thought this would be a good idea....
I'm giving this one a big Flash of Insanity vote.
Alright, I do have an 8am class tomorrow that I want to be mildly rested for, so until the next blog post, keep making good decisions!

Third Blog Post
Greetings! This blog is coming to you from my dorm room! That's right, folks, I'm back on campus! So...first, I must mention my crab. He has been in the dorm for less than an hour and he has already fallen off the window sill. This might make me a bad crab-mommy, but I felt bad for the little guy, stuck in his crabitat and always pining for the fjords, so I let him crawl about out in the open. He then proceeded to walk right off the edge of the window sill. Next time, he's going on the floor. Luckily, he was only a little stunned and is now safe inside his crabitat and is moving about. He still hasn't eaten anything. Poor thing's going to have a heart attack if he keeps freaking out everytime something comes near him. I guess it makes sense, though. He's itty-bitty. Oh, you have probably noticed but I have decided that it is a boy.
I LEFT PARVA THE PLANT AT HOME!!! This makes me sad, but I know my parents will take good care of her.
This morning, mom and I drove to campus. We got up at five in the morning. Considering I didn't fall asleep until after 3am, I was a little tired, but it was very worth it. I had a meeting and my first day of teaching Catechesis this morning and it was so adorable! I told you this would yield great stories! So, this morning I was in the pre-k/ kindergarten class and there were about seven kids. Another college girl poked her head in for a moment and the boy sitting next to me, Ben, leaned over and whispered "She's hot!" He's FIVE! It was adorable and a little disheartening. After the class was settled, the other substitute started going over the lesson for the day about baptism, and Ben continued to interrupt and be, well, five. At one point, the teacher asked what it mean to be baptised, and none of the littles knew, so she told them that it meant that your sins were washed away and that you were a Christian. Ben popped his hand up and asked what a Christian was, and the other sub told him that a Christian was a follower of Jesus. Ben promptly stood up and started running around the room. When asked what he was doing, he replied "I'm following!" Oh, Ben was a cutie, but definitely trouble.
Later during story time, Ben and his partner in crime, Louie, were being quite disruptive, so they were held back a few minutes from snack time/ playground time. Ben was so sweet and he apologized and gave me a hug before doing the same to the other teacher. Louie was a little more stubborn. I don't like Louie. That may be harsh, but I simply don't like him.
Well, that's about it for today...wow that's a lot considering it is only 1:00. Leave a comment, follow, whatever, and I'll probably fill you in with the rest of the day later, but right now, it's nap time.
G'night!

Second Blog Post!
Well, hello there! This is my second blog post to "Sparks of Brilliance and Flashes of Insanity," as the title of this post implies. I'm going back to school tomorrow so today was filled with last minute packing and running to the store to stock up on Luna bars (my favorite!). While in Wal-Mart, I made what could have been a very bad decision. Which brings us to today's installment of: Spark of Brillance or Flash of Insanity!
1. My hair has been for some time now two toned. Super blond on the ends and a light/medium ash brown at the roots. I have been displeased with this situation for some time and have been growing my hair out diligently. Well....tonight I had a revelation. I did not want to start a new semester with two toned hair. Also, I want my dear friend Rosie to stop using it as an acceptable counterpoint to whenever I make a great argument. So, I did something tonight that I promised myself I wouldn't do again...I dyed my hair. Brown. It is now almost exactly it's natural color and I am quite pleased. I used Natural Instincts in #14 Tweed, which is a semi-permanent color that lasts up to 28 washes. Oh, no, no, no...I was staying very far away from permanent hair color! I've learned my lesson well from that stuff!
Verdict: Spark of Brilliance AND Flash of Insanity!
Brilliance for the way it turned out, Insanity for taking the risk.
So...my hermit crab. Does anyone want a hermit crab, by the way? Just kidding. This poor thing must be on the verge of a nervous breakdown. To keep him and his crabitat safe, I have him surrounded by my knitting projects. Tomorrow he will be in a car for 3 1/2 hours and then FINALLY in his permanent home, the dorm room. I just hope he doesn't become one of those angry hermit crabs, you know, the type they make horror movies about.
Speaking of horror movies, I have two recommendations for everyone!
1) REPO! The Genetic Opera- This gore-tastic futuristic dystopian view of society is filled with eye-catching visuals and and equally catchy soundtrack (it is a musical). While the characters for the most part are flat and static (Shiloh and Nathan being the only acceptions), they are interesting to watch. I must praise Terrance Zdunich, who wrote, composed, and starred in this film. The gore was not as bad as I was expecting, considering that this film came from the people who brought us Saw, and the dirty industrial/ neo-Victorian look of the film really meshed with the music and the story line. The film also presented an interesting theme, pointed out clearly in on of the film's early songs, "Infected," where Shiloh Wallace (Alexa Vega) sings: "How much of it's genetics/how much of it is fate/ How much of it depends on the choices that we make?" In a world where genetic perfection is only a signature away, what makes us who we are? Do genetics determine our lives or are we still able to make our own destiny? Overall, I highly recommend this film to horror fans and musical buffs alike. I am sure this will be a cult classic for years to come.
2) Night of 1000 Cats- I cannot stop raving about how awesomely terrible this film is! This 63-minute horror about a millionaire who woos women in his castle then feeds them to his collection of one thousand cats. Originally in Spanish, this film boasts some of the worst dubbing I have seen in years. Despite it's brevity, the director dedicates approximately ten minutes to arbitrary shots of the millionaire Hugo flying about in his helicopter. There are numerous moments of poor orchestration and even more of complete silence. Don't worry about talking through this one, there is very little dialogue, and when they do speak, it is of little importance. I give highest praise to the actor playing Hugo for maintaining a completely emotionless expression through the entire film. This is sheer B-Movie brilliance and I totally approve.
Well, that's it for now!

First Blog Post!
So...I'm starting a blog. This should be interesting. For most of you I'm sure this will be another boring speck out there in the cyber-webs, but someone once told me that my life was interesting, so I'm going to start blogging. Hopefully as time passes, this will become more fascinating. My life is crazy and I apologize.
Today was a good day. I knit another scarf, cleaned my closet, and came to the realization that my hermit crab was alive. Which brings me to my first installment of:
Spark of Brilliance or Flash of Insanity?
1. So I got this hermit crab on an impulse while in Charlotte this week. I've wanted a dorm room pet and I don't like fish, so I knew a hermit crab would be one of my only options. It's hypoallergenic. Anyways, after I got it home, it didn't move or eat or do anything for three days, so I assumed it was dead. I didn't get a chance to get rid of it because my parents still don't know that I actually have a hermit crab. Anyways, I was about to take it out and put the ex-hermit crab in Mom's garden when I noticed it was alive! I was shocked. It still hadn't eaten anything, but it was alive and moving...well, kind of. It was in a corner of the terrarium and then it started going across the perimeter of the terrarium, but then it went back to it's corner where it is sitting right now, motionless. The total elapsed time of the crab's motion was maybe five minutes. It still hasn't eaten anything, but for now I'm calling it Jesus-Crab. This hermit crab might have been a bad idea. We'll see I guess.
As of right now I'm putting this under the category of Flash of Insanity
2. I have a meeting Sunday morning at a local elementary school where I'll start teaching catechesis classes (Catholic Sunday School, if you will) to small children. For those of you who don't know, I became Catholic less than a year ago. However, I really like kids and I am considering some form of education as a career (hopefully HS or college), so I think this will be a great opportunity. I'm sure I'll learn just as much as the kiddies. This will surely lead to excellent stories about small children, so stay tuned!
Verdict: Spark of Brilliance
